Biography:
Mickey Dollens is a true Oklahoman. Born and raised in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1987. After graduating high school Mickey attended SMU and studied English where he received a football scholarship. After losing his brother to mental illness he perused the NFL to honor him. While attending a NFL combine he was surprisingly approached and recruited by the U.S. Bobsledding Team. After traveling and representing the national team Mickey began working as a roughneck in the Oklahoman oilfield. Unfortunately, due to the downturn of oil production he was forced to lay over his rig. At that time Mickey turned to public service and decided to become a High School 9th grade English teacher at US Grant High School, in south Oklahoma City.
In 2018, Dollens was one of 208 Oklahoma City Public School teachers laid off due to budget cuts set forth by the Oklahoma legislature. Instead of yet again searching for alternative employment or moving out of state, he choose to focus his energy on winning an election and reforming the Oklahoma Legislature. He vowed that no teacher or school should go thru what he did. He launched his campaign in April 2016. In that summer, he knocked on close to twenty thousand doors, which led to winning the Democratic Primary with over 90% of the votes. On November 8th, 2016, Dollens flipped his seat and won the seat for House District 93 with a 59.84 percent of the vote. The representative has sense held his seat and ran unopposed in the 2022 election to keep his seat for another 2 years.
Representative Dollens is the current House Minority Whip and serves on multiple committees including A&B Public Safety, Alcohol Tobacco and Controlled Substances, Elections and Ethics and Utilities. While the Representative has ran multiple bills many of them have a focused theme of equality for all Oklahomans.
In 2019, he was honored by the Oklahoma Democratic Veterans with their prestigious Legislator of the Year Award. Representative Dollens enjoys spending his free time exploring the great state of Oklahoma with his two children - Dean and Elvy.
This legislator is not a member of any committees.
