Representative Dudley Greene was born in Newland, NC in 1963. He graduated from Avery County High School in 1981, shortly thereafter he completed Basic Law Enforcement Training and received a degree in criminal justice at Mayland Community College. He has worked with numerous law enforcement agencies including North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, Newland Police Department, Avery County Sheriff's Office and McDowell County Sheriff's Office. In 2008 he was appointed as Sheriff of McDowell County after the previous Sheriff retired. He was subsequently re-elected twice and served as Sheriff of McDowell County until he retired in 2018. Rep. Greene was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 85th District in 2020 and re-elected in 2022. He currently serves as a Co-Chairman for the NC House Justice and Public Safety Appropriations Committee and is a member of the Judiciary 2, Justice and Public Safety Oversight, Families Children and Aging, and State Personnel Committees. He is also a member of the North Carolina Sentencing Commission. He and his wife Allyson have 2 grown children and he was recently promoted to "Papaw" with the birth of his first grandchild.
