Before the Legislator
Carolyn Logan grew up in Asheville, NC. In 1977, she joined the Asheville Police Department, becoming the first black female police officer in Asheville. In 1984, Rep. Logan was recruited to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, becoming the first black female trooper in the state of North Carolina.
In 1985, she was transferred to serve Mecklenburg County, eventually promoted to Sergeant, served Gaston County, and then Union County as a Traffic Safety Specialist. She was the only black female trooper in the state of North Carolina for 14 years. In 2007, she was the first female of any race to retire from the North Carolina Highway Patrol with the required 30-year minimum.
At Belmont Abbey, Rep. Logan studied Criminal Justice and has completed the Administrative Officers Management Program through NC State University and is a Certified Basic Law Enforcement Instructor.
Rep. Logan is the recipient of the Order of The Long Leaf Pine from the state of North Carolina for extraordinary service to the state. She also received the Trailblazer Award from the Black Women's Caucus, and the Pioneer Award from North Carolina State Law Enforcement Officers Association.
She was elected to three terms as the president of the Black Women's Caucus of Charlotte Mecklenburg and previously served as a member and as vice chair of the Mecklenburg County Commissioners' Criminal Justice Advisory Committee.
She is a member of the Black Political Caucus in Charlotte as well as a member of the Charlotte Women's March and was a guest speaker at the march in Charlotte in January 2018.
She also currently represents the North Carolina State Troopers on The National Board of State Directors of The American Association of State Troopers.
She is the mother of three wonderful children, Christopher, Morgan and Taelor.
As the Legislator
Rep. Logan won her first race for House District 101 in 2018 after the retirement of Rep. Beverly Earle (Representative from 1995 to 2019). She would be sworn in January of 2019 for her first term in the North Carolina General Assembly.
Throughout her tenure, Rep. Logan would continually work for her district in what would help them. She called for Medicaid Expansion through either its own separate bill or through the budget, pushed for teacher's raises, increase the COLA rates for retirees, raising the minimum wage, and tightening legislation so that there would not be misreading's of possible new laws.
Rep. Logan also supported much legislation with 3 primary focuses: Safety, People, and Mecklenburg. This includes bills to put a strong punishment on those that pass stopped school buses, allow employees to have a safer and fairer treatment when pregnant, increase the number of State Troopers in Mecklenburg County, and more.

Rep. Logan also serves as the Democratic Caucus Shadow Chair for both the Committee on State Personnel and the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government. As shadow chair, she leads policy and direction of the causes agenda.
