Natasha has a B.A. in Public Policy from Hamilton College and a law degree from Duke University School of Law. She has been on the front lines of community work in North Carolina for decades, including Moral Monday protests at the NCGA, grassroots efforts to curb gun violence, Habitat for Humanity builds, marches in support of Women's Rights and Black Lives Matter, volunteering at the local free health clinic and organizing voter registration drives. She is also a mentor with a group dedicated to encouraging young women to run for office.
Natasha is a mother of two daughters. Her younger child is an elementary school teacher and her older daughter is married to a Naval Officer and is a PhD student. Natasha is the daughter of a public school teacher and a lawyer who also served in elected office. After passing the bar exam in 1994, Natasha practiced law at Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey, and Leonard, LLP and clerked for a federal judge in Greensboro. She moved to Davidson in 2007. Immediately prior to taking office, she worked at the Ada Jenkins Center, a local community center that provides services and support to those most in need.
She is the co-founder of the Democrats of North Mecklenburg, was a volunteer team leader with the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigns, and is a member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense and the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation.
Senator Marcus serves on the following committees: Judiciary, Redistricting & Elections, Education, Commerce and Insurance, Base Budget Appropriations, and Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety.
She is a strong advocate for public schools, affordable health care, reproductive freedom, clean water, common sense gun safety reform, fair elections, better wages for working people, and local initiatives to serve the people of District 41.
