The son of a farmer and a public school teacher, Tom grew up in a modest, working-class family on a farm in Richmond County. He learned from his parents the value of a dollar, the importance of a relevant education, and how to work hard to earn a living. Tom McInnis never had the luxury of a large inheritance or handouts. He put himself through school and built small businesses that have created jobs in our community for years.

Currently in his second term of the State Senate, Tom has worked to reduce unnecessary government rules, regulations and restrictions that stifle the entrepreneurial spirit of North Carolina's citizens and job creators, while continuing to protect the health, safety and welfare of all North Carolinians. Tom has focused on relevant vocational and technical educational opportunities leading to a living wage. He has worked to raise teacher pay and provisions for better educational opportunities for students through school choice programs. While Tom sees all of the work he's done in Raleigh as important, perhaps none is as critical as his ongoing fight against Opioid addictions. Having seen first-hand the devastation that Opioid addiction can cause, he is driven to continue this battle. Tom is the Chairperson of the Senate Transportation Committee for Policy and Appropriations and also serves on the committees for Commerce and Insurance, State and Local Government, Agriculture, Environmental and Natural Resources.

Tom is running for re-election to the State Senate because he believes the constituents of the new 21st District deserve an experienced Senator who is bold, decisive and willing to work tirelessly to improve education, increase job opportunities, improve transportational infrastructure all the while applying conservative principles that will improve the lives of all the citizens of Anson, Moore, Richmond and Scotland counties.

Tom's wife, Janice, is a retired Richmond County Schools teacher. They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren and they make their home in Ellerbe and Pinehurst, NC.
