James Roberson is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He was appointed to represent the 39th House District - Wake County, by Governor Roy Cooper in January 2021 after Representative Darren Jackson was appointed to the N.C. Court of Appeals.

Representative James Roberson is originally from Wilson North Carolina and is a graduate of Hunt High School. His education includes a BA Degree in Communications from Shaw University and an MLS Degree from North Carolina Central University. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. James quickly learned the value and importance of community service early as he accompanied his mother on many voter registrations quests. This instilled in him the importance of engagement with citizens and commitment to community.

In 2007, James was elected to the Knightdale Town Council where he served as Councilor for two consecutive terms and was elected as Mayor of Knightdale in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. James was able to accomplish many initiatives that supported education, economic growth, public safety and community issues. His strong advocacy for citizens and his commitment to community has earned him many recognitions and appointments identifying him as a leader who produces results.

His career spans over thirty-one years with Wake Technical Community College, most recently serving as Sr. Dean, Instructional Support and Chief Campus Officer of the Western Wake Campus. In this position he demonstrated true leadership by embracing and ensuring student success in Education Economic and Workforce Development.

Representative Roberson is a member of the Appropriations, Appropriations-Agriculture and Natural and Economic Resources, Insurance, Pension and Retirement and State Personnel committees.

In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing tennis, pickleball, music and mentoring. James is married to Sharon Roberson and has one daughter and two wonderful grandsons.
